We spent more a lot more time on Utila then expected, so some more photos accumulated.
Last dive in Utila, and finally someone at hand with a camera. |
So we are both certified Advanced Open Water divers now.. if I ever come back to Utila, I won't leave before I'm a full Dive Master. Honestly.
(And I wouldn't do it anywhere else than at Ecomarine. I know this is blatant advertisement, but I can't think of a better diving environment than around those amazing guys who run it! Thanks Tara, Steve, Ernesto, Foster, Bryan and all the rest of you!)
Slacklining now in Utila as well. |
Our extended stay is partially also due to the fact that I am down for a few days with fever and the well-known digestive difficulties of the tropical traveller.
Nevertheless, we manage to set up the slackline for a bit, and also do a test-run of the homegrown bicycle trailer.
Airstrip and crazy guy with a trailer. |
Cargo: big bag of trash, that we meant to bring from Kirstin's house to the next trash bin for quite some time. So we have to cross the airstrip once more..
First test ride. Mission: bring away that trash. |
And this day is Saturday. We didn't know, this is the busy day. So I nearly get bowled over by a landing Cessna. Okay, it wasn't really that close, but a plane can startle you really good when it lands a couple hundred meters behind you while you leg it (or rather pedal it) to the edge of the runway.
Oh yes, there was also some air trafic at that stip. Quite scary, honestly. |
One of the Utila Cays. Or Keys. Or Cayes. Tiny island, anyway. |
We were even hoping for the Big One: spotting a whale shark nearby, and the jump into the water to snorkel around it when it comes close to the surface.
On the dive boat, with Captain Foster spotting something intesting. |
Captain Foster again. |
My blog entry wouldn't be complete without some shots of tiny animals that mostly only I notice (or find interesting). I did get one acceptably good photo of one of the house geckos, protectors against mosquitos.
For the sake of completeness, I'm very happy to present a photo of one of our home geckos. They saved us from a lot (but not all, of course) mosquito bites. |
And I was really happy to spot a hummingbird nest. It looks like a tiny basket woven to a very thin branch, which is still more than enough to support the tiny resident's weight.
Hummingbird in it's nest. About half the size of an (chicken) eggcup. |
Glorious sunset, seen from out diving dock, just before getting into the boat for the night dive. |
We really enjoyed our time here, but finally we have to get going. We want to be in time in Managua, Honduras, to meet Pete, who is coming over from London.
